Why Johnson County?
White River Township/Center Grove – White River Township is one of nine townships located within Johnson County. The township is often referred to as “Center Grove,” though it is not an incorporated town or city. The “Center Grove” area is known for its award-winning school system, affordable housing, to high-end luxury homes, and is within close proximity to the Indianapolis International Airport, Downtown Indy, Bloomington, and Columbus Indiana.
The Center Grove Community School Corporation serves approximately 7,700 students in grades Kindergarten through 12. The district offers five elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. The high school has recently undergone renovations to the football stadium and a $10-million-dollar student life center addition. The Center Grove Trojans not only excel in the classroom, but also in extracurricular sports and performing arts.
Greenwood - Greenwood is located in the northern portion of Johnson County, approximately 12 miles south of downtown Indianapolis, and is home to over 50,000 residents. Over the past few years, Greenwood has seen significant development along its Emerson Avenue corridor, and along Main Street in Old Towne Greenwood.
Old Towne Greenwood is in the midst of a major redevelopment effort which includes facelifts to many of the buildings downtown, the redevelopment of the existing middle school, a remodeled community center, amphitheater and more. The redevelopment project is poised to bring new shops, restaurants, parks, and apartments to downtown Greenwood.
Greenwood Community School Corporation is an “A” rated school corporation 6 years running and offers 4 elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Greenwood Community High School has recently undergone updates including the addition of a new $4-million-dollar field house. The school corporation acquired land just south of Smith Valley Road and is in the process of building a state of the art $27-million-dollar middle school outdoor aquatic center, ice rink and park.
Whiteland – The town of Whiteland sits between both Greenwood and Franklin and is approximately a 10 minute drive to each of the towns’ downtown areas. Whiteland offers both affordable housing and country living east of Interstate I-65. Whiteland is within close proximity to two different I-65 interchanges, yet still has that small town feel. Whiteland is home to the Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation. The school corporation offers one preschool, five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
Franklin – Franklin is located approximately 20-25 minutes south of Downtown Indianapolis. Franklin is the county seat of Johnson County, and home to roughly 22,000 residents. Franklin boasts traditional main street shops, coffeehouses, restaurants, the historic Artcraft Theatre, and is the home of Franklin College. Along with tree lined streets, quaint bungalows and Victorian mansions, the city also maintains several parks, trails, and other recreational areas that are perfect for a scenic walk or jog.
Franklin is also a city on the move. Downtown Franklin has been in the midst of a redevelopment project over the past few years with additional redevelopment planned for the future. Franklin is a town that supports both small, locally owned businesses as well as several companies that conduct business on a global scale. Franklin Schools are proud of the state-of-the-art high school, five elementary schools, one intermediate, and one middle school.
Trafalgar is a very rural area and is home to Indian Creek School System. This area is farm fields and lake houses. If you are looking for an area that is away from the city this is an area to check out.
